Have you heard about Eagle’s Nest Skywalk Langkawi? Located at the middle station of Langkawi’s famous Panorama Cable Car (aka Sky Cab), this latest addition to Oriental Village is not to be missed! The sky walk platform is a whopping 38 meters in length and is suspended a breathtaking 650 meters above sea level. This offers visitors a very unique perspective of the Machinchang rainforest canopy below, as well as a 360-degree panoramic view of the Langkawi archipelago.
Construction of Eagle’s Nest Skywalk began back in 2019, but with the pandemic and a few other bumps in the road, it wasn’t until March of 2024 that it was finally opened to the public. It also has dibs in purportedly being the world’s longest free-standing glass sky deck, which is an impressive feat in itself.
If you happen to be afraid of heights or have safety concerns, just look out to the horizon and take in the stunning vistas surrounding the ‘nest’. It’s a sight to behold!
The skywalk can hold up to 300 people and is extremely strong, so fear not. The spacious skywalk also has plenty of room for visitors to have their own space and walk the area without feeling crowded.
Eagle’s Nest Skywalk, the New Kid in Town
The profile of the mountain top Eagle head is visually difficult to miss. But the new venue itself may be overlooked by guests whose main intention is to visit Oriental Village and take a cable car ride. I almost did! With the numerous sky activities listed, it may be a bit confusing for newbies to Oriental Village when purchasing tickets.
It’s certainly no coincidence that the word ‘Sky’ is included in many of Oriental Village’s major venue names; SkyCab, SkyBridge, SkyGlide, SkyTrail, etc. Even the old adage ‘The sky’s the limit’ comes to mind when visiting Oriental Village, as there are indeed endless possibilities for a full day or two of Langkawi sightseeing.
But Eagle’s Nest Skywalk is the new kid in town and is so new it may not even be mentioned yet in various travel agent ticket packages. In fact, I even had trouble finding it on the Panorama Cable Car’s website , which happens to be a very ‘busy’ website of flashing photos and special deals on various sky named activities, but I finally did find it HERE.
So, when you purchase your tickets, look carefully at what is included to make sure the Eagle’s Nest Skywalk is included. You can of course also purchase ala carte tickets at the Skywalk’s ticket counter, but you will save money in the long run by purchasing a combo package.
Eagle’s Nest Skywalk is Not-to-Be-Missed
I’m not usually one to jump on shiny new tourism products, but I couldn’t resist Eagle’s Nest Skywalk. I, myself, had only planned recently to take the cable car up and get a few photos, but there it was…the giant Brahminy Kite (AKA Red Eagle) head looming from its perch atop Gunung Machinchang mountain; guarding its massive nest of eggs.
After spending a small ala carte fortune to ride the cable car up, it would have been a completely wasted trip had I not added the skywalk into my sunny day itinerary. Tickets can be purchased at their ticket counter, but like I said, package deals are much more budget friendly. A travel tip I unfortunately forgot this go round.
Eagle’s Nest Skywalk has onsite lockers for guests to put purses, bags and other loose belongings in, to avoid anything being dropped on the glass floor. And rightly so. The skywalk is impressively scratch-free, offering an amazing view of the forest canopy below that you will not find anywhere else in Langkawi.
Contrary to some rumors, cameras and phones are allowed, but the skywalk staff will equip you with a special lanyard, to prevent any accidental drops. Larger camera equipment will need to be ok’d by staff, so be prepared.
Those Sky High Photo Ops
Eagle’s Nest Skywalk has lots of photo ops, too. In addition to your own photos and content creating, the staff of Eagle’s Nest Skywalk also take a few souvenir shots (on sale later for reasonable prices). Be sure to request some vertical shots, because sometimes they can be a bit more flattering.
Pro tip: Be sure to get some Eagle’s Nest photos during the ride up the cable car, because the angle just isn’t quite the same coming back down the mountain.
Sky Smart Café
Conveniently located next to the skywalk is a little open-air café that offers beverages and snacks at affordable prices. They have plenty of tables and chairs so it’s quite a decent place to take a mountain top break.
Visiting Eagle’s Nest Skywalk
I stopped at the middle station on my way up the mountain, which in hindsight I’m glad I did. My sky cab going up to the middle station and onward to the top station was only occupied by me, so it was spacious and private. Coming back down, I had companions and was unable to get more photos due to the tight quarters and general awkwardness. You may have better luck. But either way, you’re sure to have a good time.
Buying Tickets to Eagle’s Nest Skywalk
Like I said, you will save money by purchasing a ‘package’ deal from the cable car website or various Apps (like Klook) that includes several activities along with the cable car ride, such as the new Eagle’s Nest Skywalk.
The problem with doing this in advance is that the cable car is weather dependent. Buy your tickets ahead of time, and you could end up staring at sheets of rain or a mountain top fog bank on the day of your visit. Best solution? Wait until you are 100% sure the weather is fabulous, and then buy your ‘best price’ tickets. Unless, of course, you have a rain check date change option.
The Langkawi Cable Car is Langkawi’s number one tourist attraction and an absolutely not-to-be-missed. But you don’t need a special ‘tour guide’ to take you there. Visiting Oriental Village and the Cable Car is a no-brainer, and all you need is a ride to get there. GRAB taxi or regular taxis can do that just fine (drop off and pick up). Save your tour guide excursions for those Langkawi ‘hidden gems’ that are not so easy to get to.
